Gibsons launches Civilization with a bang!
Game enthusiasts and the inventor of the classic strategy game turn out for re-release bash
Gibsons hosted a launch party on Friday 16 March to celebrate the re-release of classic strategy game Civilization.
Designed by legendary games inventor Francis Tresham (pictured below), and originally published in 1980, Civilization is a board game that pits players against each other in their quest to lead a nation to the pinnacle of development.
The launch party kicked off at 6pm at board game café The Library Pot, in Richmond. Guests travelled far and wide to test play the new edition, which includes enhanced artwork, a reworked box and a redesigned rule booklet. By 7pm the café was jam-packed with Civilization enthusiasts, as well as Francis Tresham himself, who bought the very first Civilization prototype along with him for all to see.
Every guest was given a free drinks token and the first 25 received a Gibsons Goody Bag, which included various treats, including a copy of Gibsons’ brand new game, Pixit. Two lucky guests also won a copy of Civilization in the raffle that was held at the end of the night.
“The Civilization Launch Party was a great success,” said Samantha Goodburn, Marketing and PR Manager at Gibsons. “We were thrilled with the turnout and The Library Pot was a fantastic venue to host the evening. We want to thank everyone who attended and hope that they enjoyed playing the momentous game!”
