Mattel's MindRacers sees Hot Wheels race onto iPads
Partners with Osmo for physical-digital play experience
Mattel has teamed up with Osmo to bring Hot Wheels into the digital age with MindRacers, a toy track and cars that pair with an iPad for a mix of physical and digital play.
The Osmo MindRacers comes complete with a racetrack and six Hot Wheels cars that interact with the app game. Players flick tokens into the racetrack device to speed up their cars or interfere without the efforts of their competitors by hitting them or using power-ups.
Packaged in a "For boys and girls" box, MindRacers is billed as a gender-neutral toy – a side-step from the traditional boy-centric audience the Hot Wheels brand often targets.
Speaking to GamesBeat, Osmo CEO Pramod Sharma said MindRacers is a "very different project". "With multiple generations of Hot Wheels fans, we think that parents will like it too."
