Cars 3 takes pole position
Disney Pixar’s hit animation makes a special appearance at the British Grand Prix
As Disney Pixar’s Cars 3 sped into UK cinemas last weekend, the star and voice of the legendary Lightning McQueen, Owen Wilson attended the Formula 1 British Grand Prix along with the film’s director Brian Fee and producer Kevin Reher.
Wilson also felt the thrill of the Silverstone circuit on board the F1 Experience two-seater car around the world-famous race track and took part in the start of the race.
Wilson was in attendance to celebrate a specially created Cars 3 garage housing two special guests in the pit lane – the life size models of the film’s lead characters – Lightning McQueen and Jackson Storm - complete with their own special pit crew. The event marks the release of the film in the UK which has taken an estimated £2.65m in it’s opening weekend.
Lee Jury, co-head of the Walt Disney Studios UK said: "We are so thrilled to be partnering with F1, what better way to celebrate the release of Cars 3 than to welcome the legendary Lightning McQueen and his new arch rival, Jackson Storm, to Silverstone in this unprecedented activation at the Formula 1 Rolex British Grand Prix. Fans are in for a treat."
World Champion Lewis Hamilton, who won this weekend’s race at Silverstone – his record-equalling fifth British Grand Prix - makes his return to the Cars universe to voice Hamilton, a fully loaded, built-in voice command assistant in the new film.
Sean Bratches, Managing Director, Commercial Operations at Formula 1added: "We're thrilled to be collaborating with Disney and the blockbuster Cars franchise. After seeing the incredibly authentic race scenes in Cars 3, we knew that F1 British Grand Prix was the only place to launch the film in the UK and we're sure it will delight our growing family audience for F1."
